Hey, everyone!
May is almost over and, depending on where you live, summer is either here or it’s sneaking up like Michael Myers from a hedge (or Homer Simpson, for that matter). So as another spring passes us by, I just want to send out a quick note to tell you three cool things. I mean, it’s not like anything else interesting is happening in the world right now, right? Pretty slow news week.
Mmmmm, that’s good sarcasm.
The Old Lady is now available in audiobook for the very first time. Read by Cora Blouch, this is the full, unabridged, uncensored text. Cora gave an exceptional performance here. Though I hadn’t worked with her before this, I certainly will again. She perfectly captured the novel’s grim tone, gave the titular character a solid voice, and read the ultraviolence with breathless energy. As I’ve said before, The Old Lady is one the books I’m most proud of. In writing it, I addressed some of my personal demons while also providing commentary on America’s serious societal problems (you know—putting the punk back in splatterpunk). But don’t worry. It’s not a preachy or political book, and it brings the hardcore horror in blood-wet spades.
The audiobook is available on Audible, Amazon, Apple, etc.
The paperback is available wherever you get books or in a signed bundle on my website.
The second bit of news is that Mike Lombardo, director of the much-celebrated I’m Dreaming of a White Doomsday, is working on his next feature film with horror scribes Brian Keene and Samantha Kolesnik. Are you a fan of indie horror cinema? Of course you are, because you're beautiful. Well, this is your chance to support a grassroots horror film project while also rolling around in the delicious gravy that is video store nostalgia.
DEAD FORMAT is currently running an Indiegogo campaign. They’ve reached 59% of their goal and have 23 days remaining to reach 100%. Without hitting that, they’ll lose all the money they’ve gained. Let’s help them make this happen. There are plenty of perks that come with contributing—goodies horror cinema fans are already going nuts for—so please give the fundraiser a look and donate whatever you can. We’re all in this together, folks. Are you tired of bland, PG, mainstream horror? Me too! This is how you get something different. That’s why I donated. I hope you’ll consider doing the same.
Last but certainly not least, I have another public appearance to announce!
I'm happy to say I will be signing books as part of Authors Against Abuse, a charity event benefitting Safe Futures, a Connecticut-based foundation formed to support victims and families affected by domestic violence. This is a great, important cause, and the event will feature authors from all different genres.
So join us for Charlee Bravos in Putnam, CT on July 27th, 2024!
Visit the event page for more information.
If you or someone you love is experiencing domestic violence or abuse, please know that help is always available and you don’t have to face this struggle alone. Call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233.

Currently reading: What This Comedian Said Will Shock You by Bill Maher. I know, I know—he’s a controversial figure some of you don’t like, and that’s cool. I don’t always agree with the guy. But if you enjoy him or Real Time, it’s a damned good (and funny) read. And if you’re one of those types who thinks books by people you don’t agree with should be burned, I’ve got something better for you to set on fire—your hair.
I’m also reading Angel’s Inferno by the late, great William Hjortsberg.
Currently watching: Batman: Gotham by Gaslight. In this one, Batman is pitted against Jack the Ripper. That was not a typo.
Currently listening to: Night of the Crime by ICON and I Just Dropped by to Say Hello by Johnny Hartman. It’s good to have variety, folks.
Until next time, keep reading, and try to be happy.
Your pal,
Kris
Well damn, I'm reading Falling Angel right now and loving it. I had no idea there were more books featuring Harry Angel.
